The Bible opens with light. Not with man’s effort, not with law, not even with form or structure—but with God’s voice breaking into the darkness. This sets the pattern for the entire story of redemption: light is always God’s first gift. Where chaos reigns, His illumination enters. Where shadows hide, His Word exposes.
Notice, light does not come from creation itself. It is not summoned by the void. It is spoken by God: “Let there be light,” or more literally, “Light be!” The Hebrew text shows us the raw command—yehi ’or—a phrase that carries the force of divine will “to be light“. It is not a suggestion. It is not a request. It is the unstoppable breaking forth of clarity. It is calling things that be not as though they were i.e. “It is light,” even though all one can see is darkness.
So it is in your life. Christ, the true Light (John 1:9), shines where confusion dwells. He is not waiting for you to “get it together” or to fix the chaos by your own strength. His Word is the light that brings order, peace, and direction. Today, whatever shadow you face—uncertainty about your future, weariness in your soul, or anxiety about provision—let His first word be light and declare it over your life with confidence just as your heavenly Father did in the beginning.
PRAYER
Lord, You are my first light. Where my thoughts are tangled, You bring clarity. Where my soul feels void, You hover and breathe life. Speak into my darkness today, and let Your Word drive out confusion. Guide my steps, fill me with peace, and let me live as one who walks in the radiance of Your presence. Amen.
“Lord, today I walk in Your Presence and Your light. Because You are always with me, I am never alone no matter how dark it seems.
