David proclaims with certainty: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1) Faith speaks in assurance, not in anxiety. The Shepherd does not merely provide food and water; He restores the soul. Every need becomes an invitation to lean on His sufficiency.
Jesus echoes this rest in John 15:5: “I am the vine; you are the branches.” Notice—He doesn’t command you to produce fruit, but to abide. Fruit is the natural result of connection. Anxiety comes when we strive to do apart from Him what only flows through Him.
Together, these passages teach us that our calling is not striving but abiding; not frantic provision-hunting but resting in the Shepherd’s care; not self-driven production but fruitfulness through union with Christ.
PRAYER
Lord, You are a good shepherd to me.
You guide my steps, bless my abiding,
and fill my days with purpose and peace
as I abide (meno) in You
by waiting (perimeno) on You.
Amen.
“Lord, my job is not to strive but to abide in trust in your goodness.
