AUDIO PODCAST
There comes a moment in every believer’s life when the fog lifts, and you realise that you’re not just called to believe—you’re called to stand.
It’s a moment when you stop waiting for someone else to take action and realise the weight of your own calling. You’re not meant to sit back while the world crumbles around you. No, you’re meant to rise up, to step into the battle, to face the enemy in the gap, and to declare, “Not on my watch.”
As Christians, we’re living in a time where the road ahead feels increasingly narrow. The Cumberland Gap—a passage through mountains, steep and treacherous—was once the only way to reach the promise of Kentucky. It was a place where men had to dig deep, face overwhelming obstacles, and fight their way through. Those who made it through didn’t do so by accident; they did it because they fought. And so must we.
We stand at a similar crossroads today. We’re faced with a choice: stand our ground or lose it. The enemy is advancing, seeking to steal the fire from our hearts, to dampen our passion, and to weaken the Church. His goal is to see us silent and complacent, to make us forget what we’ve been called to.
But let’s not be mistaken—we were never meant to retreat. We were made for war. We were born to carry the light of the Gospel through dark places, even when the path seems perilous. If we stand firm, the Church will rise, and we’ll see a future defined not by fear, but by God’s power working in us.
CUMBERLAND GAP
“Cumberland Gap, it’s a devil of a gap.”
The old folk song echoes through the hills like a prophecy. A narrow pass between the mountains—once a gateway to freedom and promise—is now an image for every spiritual breach we’ve allowed the enemy to take.
And make no mistake: he has taken ground.
But he hasn’t taken it finally.
He hasn’t taken it without a fight.
Not if we stand up. Not if we go back into the gap.
THE CHURCH IS UNDER SIEGE—AND SHE’S WORTH FIGHTING FOR
Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. (Isaiah 6:8)
The enemy knows something many Christians have forgotten: the Church is God’s chosen bride, His battle station, and His embassy on Earth. That’s why she’s under fire—why your faith is being tested, why your family is being sifted, and why the world feels colder by the hour.
We are standing at the edge of a Cumberland Gap of our own—a spiritual threshold. On one side is apathy, distraction, and decay. On the other? A radiant, blood-bought, fire-filled Bride walking in power.
But getting there?
That’s the devil of the gap.
GOD IS LOOKING FOR DANIELS, NOT BYSTANDERS
“And I sought for a man among them that should make up the hedge and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.” (Ezekiel 22:30)
“Daniel stood on the pinnacle rock, looking’ up and down the mountain, took his trusty old flintlock, and Daniel started shoutin’, shoutin’…”
We need the spirit of Daniel again. Not only the prophet who prayed in Babylon, but the pioneer who stood on the edge of the unknown and roared into the void. The ones who don’t run from the dark—they hunt it down.
Too many believers are waiting for revival to happen to them.
But the Kingdom of God suffers violence—and the violent take it by force (Matthew 11:12). We need men and women who will step into the gap and pull the Church back from the brink.
IT’S TIME TO GET INTO THE FIGHT

This isn’t a call for violence of the flesh. It’s a call to violent faith—to prayer that shakes mountains, worship that shatters strongholds, and truth that confronts the lies of the age.
Like Brother John in the song—hauling his bride through a blizzard—we are carrying something sacred through enemy territory.
The devil knows what we carry.
Do we?
It’s not enough to survive this gap.
We must advance.
THE GAP MAY BE DEVILISH—BUT GOD IS GREATER
The Cumberland Gap tried to kill pioneers. Some never made it.
But those who did opened the way for a new kind of life.
So yes—this gap is fierce. It may cost you. It will cost you.
But on the other side is a Kentucky of the Spirit—revival, glory, healing, and the dawn breaking through.
Don’t let fear keep you from the climb.
Don’t let weariness steal your roar.
Get your flint-lock. Stand on the rock. And shout.
DEVOTIONAL PRAYER
Lord of Hosts,
You have not called me to comfort, but to conquest.
Not with hatred or arrogance, but with truth and burning love.
Train my hands for war and my heart for worship.
Make me one who enters the gap—not runs from it.
Use me to restore the Church, to guard her beauty, and to fight for the future.
Even if the snow is deep and the way is narrow—I’ll go.Lord, here I am; send me.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
- Where have you seen the enemy “take ground” in the Church—or in your own life?
- What does “fighting back” look like practically for you in this season?
- Who or what are you carrying through the gap? (Family, calling, truth?)
- How can you stand in the gap for your community or generation?
- What kind of pioneer or warrior do you feel God is calling you to become?
MEMORY VERSE
“Do not be afraid of them…but remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.” (Nehemiah 4:14)
